New Doctoral Student

Matthias Bickel holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). During his studies, he focused on applied computer science as well as production technology and operations research. He wrote his master's thesis in collaboration with Forschungszentrum Informatik (FZI) and Festo. In his thesis, he conceptualized a marketplace for trading resources of additive manufacturing among participants.

Matthias has gained experience not only in industry in companies such as Mercedes-Benz US International, Siemens Energy, and SEW-Eurodrive, but also in the academic world where he joined research groups of Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) and different institutes of his university.

In his leisure time, Matthias enjoys riding his road bike, going for a trail run, and rowing with his peers. Having moved to Zurich, he is now excited to discover nature in the various parts of Switzerland
