New paper on Process Mining published in IJPR
The Chair of POM is pleased to announce its publication in the International Journal of Production Research (IJPR). Together with Prof. Sihn from the TU Wien, Rafael Lorenz, Julian Senoner and Prof. Netland have published the paper “Using process mining to improve productivity in make-to-stock manufacturing”.

Process mining, a recent development in information systems research, receives a lot of attention from both industry and academia. Essentially, it supports companies in leveraging their data to analyze process flows. With a growing amount of data, the manufacturing industry entails high potential for the use of process mining. Therefore, the paper proposes a data-driven procedure to improve productivity in make-to-stock manufacturing. The proposed procedure draws upon process mining to dynamically map and analyze manufacturing processes in an automated manner. This way, manufacturers can leverage data to overcome the limitations of existing process mapping methods, which only provide static snapshots of process flows. By bridging data and process science, process mining can exploit hitherto untapped potential for productivity improvement. The proposed procedure is empirically validated at our industrial partner Geberit AG and led to three improvement suggestions.
We would like to thank our partner Geberit AG, specifically Dr. Philip Roh and Christian Waldis, for the great collaboration and their valuable insights.
