Maricela C. Arellano Caro honored for her excellent dissertation
Post-doctoral researcher Maricela C. Arellano Caro received a “Highly Commended” mention in the Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Awards
The Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Awards (ODRA) is a joint doctoral research award co-run by Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, publisher of the largest collection of international business and management journals, and EFMD, an international not-for-profit membership organisation with over 900 members from academia, business, public sector and consultancy. The awards recognize excellence in management research globally among business schools, universities, and the Emerald’s community.
Maricela was honored in the category Operations and Production Management for the work during her Ph.D. studies at HEC Montréal. In her dissertation, entitled "An institutional and socio-cognitive view of the adoption of operational practices in production sites", she answered the research question, “How does a site in a production network adopt an operational practice?” and made several important contributions to the literature and practice of knowledge management in manufacturing networks. Her research provides an original view of the concept of adoption in the setting of Operations Management by focusing on how dimensions at both, the macro (i.e., institutional pressures) and micro level (i.e., managers’ attitudes) relate to practice adoption at production sites. By doing this, she explicitly considers that sites are not black boxes but defined by the complex and multi-layered institutional environment (i.e., the manufacturing network) as well as the individuals’ thoughts and actions.
The Chair of POM congratulates her for this great achievement, and looks forward to her future work.
