Prof. Netland gave the keynote at the 31th IJCIEOM conference, Bari
On June 24, Prof. Netland gave an invited lecture on the role of AI in teaching at the International Joint Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IJCIEOM).

IJCIEOM aims to enhance the connection between academia and industry, and to gather researchers and practitioners specializing in industrial engineering and operations management. The annual conference was held from June 23 to June 25 at the Polytechnic University of Bari, Italy. This year's motto was “Redesigning industrial systems towards a Sustainable, Resilient, and Human-Centric future in the digital era.”
Prof. Netland's talk centered around the following: AI has the
potential to change education forever, including IE&OM of course. An
important question for teachers is whether AI can fully assume some of our core job tasks. We checked if (1) AI could take over the resource-intensive job of making teaching IE&OM videos and if (2) AI could help students more efficiently read our textbook “Introduction to Manufacturing: An Industrial Engineering and Management Perspective” (Baudin and Netland, 2022). For both projects, we studied how AI impacted students’ learning effects.
