AI in Manufacturing Summit organized in Davos and Zurich

What does AI have to offer manufacturing? To find out, we organized a two-day summit for invited delegates from industry and academia in cooperation with the ETH AI Center and EthonAI.

by Sharon Teitler

This event was organized around (1) a panel discussion taking place in Davos during the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting on January 17 and (2) an in-depth session at ETH Zurich on January 18. Senior leaders and renowned professors were invited to share their thoughts and experiences. And they did. In Davos, the panel discussion organized at the AI House Davos, was a vivid panel discussion among moderator Prof. Netland and panelists Eric Enselme (WEF), Prof. Alexandra Brintrup (Cambridge University), Dr. Gunter Beitinger (Siemens), and Dr. Julian Senoner (EthonAI).

The Davos panel covered three topics: (1) What AI use cases exist today?, (2) What is the next big thing? And (3) what about the role of people? The discussion can be seen here:

On the second day, the participants shared experiences with AI in manufacturing, including two panel debates. The first panel took a deeper look at the next breakthrough AI technology for manufacturing, such as Generative AI and Causal AI. For this, Prof. Stefan Feuerriegel (LMU), Dr. Sigmund Hope (Aker), Dr. Matthias Graeber (Bühler) and Prof. Olga Fink shared their latest research and projects. The last panel discussed the challenge of rolling out AI beyond a use case pilot. Dr. Bernhard Kratzwald (EthonAI), Prof. Gisela Lanza (KIT), Dr. Thorsten Widmer (Bosch), and Prof. Jay Lee enlightened the audience with their perspective on this nontrivial challenge and opportunity.
