The Chair of POM is attending the APMS 2021 conference (online)

Prof. Netland and doctoral students Clemens Gróf, Omid Maghazei and Sven Januszek are attending the APMS 2021 conference. The contributions are published in the Springer Series Advances in Information and Communication Technology (AICT).

APMS

The APMS Conference takes place annually and brings together leading international experts from academia, industry, and government in the area of production systems and logistics to discuss globally pressing issues in smart manufacturing, operations management, supply chain management, and Industry 4.0. This year, the conference takes place under the motto “Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable and Resilient Productions Systems”.

Below a brief summary of the three conference contributions of the Chair of POM

Automatic Drones for Factory Inspection: The Role of Virtual Simulation

Automatic drones represent high potential to improve industrial operations. Yet, implementations in indoor manufacturing settings is scarce. In their study, Omid Maghazei , Torbjørn H. Netland , Dirk Frauenberger, and Tobias Thalmann use virtual simulation to explore the use of automatic drones for thermal inspection of injection molding machines in a multinational manufacturer of sanitary products and systems.

Blockchain for Product Authenticity in the Cannabis Supply Chain

In their conceptual paper, Torbjørn Netland, Sven Januszek, and former master thesis student Andreas Siegrist explore the integration of blockchain and nuclear magnetic resonance technology into medical cannabis supply chains to improve product authenticity and prevent fraud.

Setting the Stage for Research on Aftermarket Production Systems in Operations Management

One strategy to reduce resource consumption in efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals is product life-extension. In another conceptual contribution, Clemens Gróf and Torbjørn Netland introduce Aftermarket Production Systems (AmPS) as an umbrella term for industrialized product life-extending operations and discuss related literature as well as future research opportunities.
